INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Pikeville women's bowling team is heading into the postseason on a, pardon the pun, serious roll.
Â
The women were the winners of the 64-team Hoosier Classic this weekend, and then finished second in the match-play tournament.
Â
UPike finished atop the standings with a tournament score of 7,994. They edged out Mount Mercy (Ind.), who was second at 7,932, and Milligan (Tenn.), at 7,906.
Â
The Bears opened match play against Cumberland (Tenn.), and avenged its championship-round loss in last week's Mid-South Conference tournament with a 2-0 win. They then knocked off SCAD (Ga.) 2-1 to reach the finals.
Â
Mount Mercy then picked up the win in the finals.
Â
Senior
Brianna Rogers led the Bears individually, finishing third in the singles competition with a five-game average of 221.8. She opened her performance with a 264.
Â
Sophomore
Katarina Hagler finished 13
th in the field of 418 thanks to an average of 213.4.
Â
Among the rest of the team, freshman
Cierra Gabriel had a four-game average of 208.75, while sophomore
Kaytlen Peck averaged 199 for four games.
Â
