NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The University of Pikeville softball team wrapped up play in North Myrtle Beach on Wednesday.

The Bears got a 10-2 win over Penn State-DuBois before dropping the finale to Pfiffer (N.C.) University 4-3.

UPike will take a 10-6 record to Columbia, S.C., where it will play four AAC games to wrap up the road trip. The Bears will play Columbia International on Friday, with the doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. On Saturday, it will play two games against Columbia, with first pitch scheduled for noon.

Bears 10, Lions 2: The Bears ran their winning streak to seven by scoring three runs in three separate innings.

UPike had three in the first, second and fourth frames and pushed one across in the second.

First baseman
Claudia Maness had two hits, including a fourth-inning inside-the-park home run that scored right fielder
Maddie Horn and shortstop
Olivia Metcalfe. The run was part of a big day for Metcalfe and Horn.

Metcalfe singled, doubled, scored twice and drove in two, while Horn had two hits and scored three times.

Third baseman
Ashlyn Dixon also enjoyed a multiple-hit day with a single and double.

Rae-Leigh Purvis doubled and scored. Left fielder
Chloy Creech had a hit and drove in a run and second baseman
Payton Rice singled and scored.
Dani Crum also scored a run.

Shelby Ulrich pitched the final four innings to improve to 3-0 on the season. She struck out two and allowed only one hit.

Falcons 4, Bears 3, 9 innings: After taking a 3-2 lead in the top of the ninth inning, the Bears allowed Pfiffer two in the bottom half to pick up the win and end their winning streak.

Abby Hess, the ghost runner, was sacrificed to third and scored on a ground out by Metcalfe to put the Bears on top in the ninth, 3-2. The Falcons tied the game when ghost runner E.A. Vance scored on a fielder's choice. The winning run came in when courtesy runner Devon Kelly scored on a line drive single by second baseman Natalie Auman.

Harlee Quick had two hits for the Bears, with Quick adding a double. Shortstop
Alexis Emery drove in two runs ona single and s sacrifice. Crum had a triple and second baseman
Kaden Dunlap added a hit.

Chloe Calton (1-1) pitched a complete game for the Bears, striking out five. Two of the four runs she allowed were unearned.
