ATHENS, Tenn. – The University of Pikeville split a doubleheader with Tennessee Wesleyan University, giving it a series win over the nation's fourth-ranked team.

UPike took the opener 5-3 in extra innings. That, combined with Friday's 9-6 win, gave it the series. The Bulldogs took the finale 11-3.

UPike is now 14-8 on the season and 7-5 in the AAC. The Bears return to action on Wednesday when it hosts Campbellsville at 3 p.m. at Johnnie LeMaster Field.

Tennessee Wesleyan is now 21-8 overall, 10-2 in conference play.

Bears 5, Bulldogs 3, 10 innings: UPike scored three runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game and then pushed across two in the 10
th for a win in the opener.

Riley Paulino led off the ninth with a single and a double by designated hitter
Garren Gledhill put two in scoring position with one out. Paulino made the score 3-1 when he scored on an infield error off the bat of third baseman
Mason Melton.

Joe Gagnon grounded out, but an infield error allowed
Connor Moody, running for Gledhill, to score and moved Melton around to third. When shortstop
Easton Mould singled to left, Melton scored to tie the game at 3.

Cole Carmichael came on to pitch the bottom of the ninth. He allowed a hit and a walk but left both runners stranded to send the game to extra innings.

Center fielder Dominic DeCarlo got the action started in the 10
th by reaching on an error with one out. Paulino hit a ground-rule double to put runners on second and third. Left fielder
Noah Brooks brought them both across with a single.

In the bottom half, the Bulldogs put the tying runs on base but left them stranded in scoring position.

Gagnon and Paulino each had a single and a double in the win.

Carmichael earned the win to improve to 1-0.

Samuel Brown had a hit and scored twice while Mould had a single. DeCarlo recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
