First baseman
Joe Gagnon drove in four and three teammates delivered two runs each as the University of Pikeville knocked off Midway University 14-4 on Tuesday afternoon at Johnnie LeMaster Field.
Shortstop Frances Subero led five Bears with multiple hits on the day with three. He also scored twice and drove in a run.
The Bears, who scored in every inning except the second, led 7-4 when they came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth and scored seven times. Three outs later, the game ended in seven innings.
Left fielder
Noah Brooks had two hits, scored three times and drove in the first two runs of the game with a two-run home run in the first. It was his third homer of the season tying him with
Riley Paulino for the team lead.
Paulino had two doubles, drove in two and scored two for the Bears, who had 15 hits on the day, eight of them for extra bases.
In addition to his four RBIs, Gagnon doubled twice and scored a run.
Secon baseman
Easton Mould had two hits, scored a run and drove one in.
Designated hitter
Garren Gledhill, third baseman
Mason Melton and right fielder
Cole Fowler all doubled in the win. Gledhill scored and drove one in, Melton scored three times and Fowler added an RBI.
Catcher
Hayden Hollingsworth had a hit and drove in two, as all nine Bears in the starting lineup had hits and either scored or had RBIs. In addition, his courtesy runner
Connor Moody came around to score.
Three Bears were used on the mound, led by starter
Reed Sutton, who pitched the first five to improve to 2-0. He struck out four in the win.
Caleb Morrison pitched a perfect sixth with
Cole Carmichael striking out one in the seventh.
UPike is now 15-11 on the season and is scheduled to return to action on Friday, hosting Columbia International (S.C.) University for the first game of a three-game series.
Midway fell to 19-8.
