The University of Pikeville continued its solid season on Wednesday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader from Tennessee Wesleyan University.

The Bears took the opener 9-0 in a game that took only 1:05 to play and won the second 5-4 in a game that featured a 2:02 weather delay.

UPike is now 20-8 on the season, 10-6 in the league and riding a five-game winning streak. Since the beginning of March, the Bears have won 19 of 24 games.

The Bears will now hit the road for a doubleheader on Saturday when they visit Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.) College. Game time is 1 p.m.

Bears 9, Bulldogs 0, 5 innings: The Bears posted eight runs in the second inning and added an insurance tally in the third to pull out a win in the opener.

Freshman pitcher
Chloe Calton went the distance, striking out nine and allowing only one hit in the win. That's a new season high, surpassing the six she had on Sunday against Union Commonwealth University.

Of her nine strikeouts, four came in the first inning.

UPike got two hits each from first baseman
Claudia Maness and third baseman
Ashlyn Dixon. Maness had a triple, an RBI and scored, while Dixon doubled, scored twice and drove one in.

Second baseman
Kaden Dunlap had a hit, drove in two and scored one. Catcher
Dani Crum singled, drove one in and scored. Left fielder
Harlee Quick had a single and an RBI.

Alexis Emery drove in two runs and scored. Designated player

Addison Johnson each scored for the Bears.

Bears 5, Bulldogs 4: The Bears scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to rally for a win and the sweep of the doubleheader.

The fifth started with consecutive outs for the Bears, but the first hit was a triple off the bat of Dunlap. Maness immediately delivered her with a single to right- center to tie the score at four.

Creech doubled to deep left field to put the go-ahead run on third, and Maness scored on a wild pitch to put the Bears ahead to stay.

Creech had three hits and Maness two to lead the Bears offensively. Crum singled and scored. Quick singled and drove in a run, while Emery also had a hit.
Maddie Horn scored and walked twice in the game, a feat she also did in the opener.

Brianna Johnsen pitched six innings to improve to 8-2 on the season. Calon, who earned the win in the opener, recorded her first collegiate save.
