MIDWAY – The University of Pikeville wrapped up the nonconference portion of the 2026 baseball season on Tuesday, losing to Midway University 8-4.
Â
The Bears are now 25-17 on the season and split the regular-season meetings with Midway after a 14-4 win over the Eagles at home on March 24.
Â
Midway got all its offense in the second and sixth innings, scoring four times in each. The Bears scored a single tally in the third and added three in the fifth to tie the score before the Eagles rallied in the sixth.
Â
The third-inning run came on a solo home run by left fielder
Noah Brooks, his team-leading fifth or the season.
Â
In the fifth, designated hitter
Samuel Brown led off with a walk and Brooks followed with a single to left, moving into scoring position on an error. Catcher
Garren Gledhill delivered both with a double to left-center.
Â
His courtesy runner,
Connor Moody, scored when shortstop
Francis Subero hit into a fielder's choice to tie the game.
Â
UPike had opportunities to mount a rally but left 10 runners on base on the day.
Â
The Bears had seven hits, with Brooks delivering three of them. Gledhill had two more. The others were singles by third baseman
Mason Melton and centerfielder Dominic DeCarlo.
Â
Five hurlers took to the mound for UPike, with the decision going to
Dawson Schultz (1-3). Reliever
Richtter Castillo threw a scoreless eighth inning, seeing his first action since March 10.
Â
UPike will wrap up the regular season later this week with a three-game series against Bluefield (Va.) University at Johnnie LeMaster Field. The Bears and Rams will play Thursday at 3 p.m. and close it out with a doubleheader on Friday beginning at noon.
