DAYTON, Tenn. – When the University of Pikeville opened AAC play on Saturday at Bryan (Tenn.), it had 23 shots on goal compared to three by the Lions. It found the net once, and it was enough for a 1-0 win.
 
UPike is now 2-2 on the season; Bryan fell to 0-4.
 
The teams played a scoreless but eventful first half. UPike had 13 shots on goal, all of them turned away by Emory Andrews. Seniors Sadie Bourgeois, Jayla Boyd and Charlene Lofqvist, along with junior Rebekah Christopher, all had two shots on goal for the Bears.
 
UPike keeper Claire Cress faced two shots on net, but was successful in saving both of them.
 
After a weather delay of more than three hours at halftime, the Bears scored in the 64^th minute when Boyd scored her third goal of the early season, putting UPike on top 1-0.
 
Lofqvist led the Bears with four shots on goal, while Boyd, Christopher and Ritter had three each.
 
Ruth Cook had all three shots on goal for the Lions.
 
Cress had two saves in pitching the shutout for UPike. Andrews was the tough-luck losing keeper, recording 20 saves in the loss.
 
The Bears will return home on Wednesday, hosting Johnson (Tenn.) University. The match, at Bob Amos Park, will begin at 5 p.m.
