Brian Williams

Brian Williams is in his fifth season at UPIKE, currently serving as the associate head coach, along with defensive and recruiting coordinator positions.

Under his direction in 2016, the Bears posted their best defensive numbers in nine seasons, allowing opponents just 349 total offensive yards per game. UPIKE’s 25 points per game allowed last season were the lowest since 2005. The Bears’ pass defense took center stage, ranking second nationally at 133.7 yards allowed per contest.

In 2015, the Bears were strong on the defensive side of the ball as well, allowing just 378.4 yards per game. UPIKE’s 28.2 points allowed per game were the fewest in 11 seasons before the 2016 team’s nearly nation-leading performance.

A native of Middlesboro, Ky., Williams came to UPIKE after coaching the defense at Texas A&M-Commerce for four seasons. He has also served as both a linebackers and special teams coach at BCS-level programs including Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Akron and Fresno State.

Williams also owns FCS-level experience after coaching at Alabama State, Kentucky State and Morehead State, as well as stints as an associate head coach at Akron and assistant head coach at Alabama State.

As a senior at the University of Kentucky in 1985, Williams earned Second Team All-SEC recognition, was voted the team’s Most Valuable Senior and was a two-time winner of the Outstanding Defensive Lineman of the Year award.

Williams is the father of two children, Bryson and Kaylee.
