Michael Harris begins his third season at UPIKE as the Special Teams Coordinator. He will also coach linebackers for his second season after working with the defensive line in his first year with the Bears.
In addition to his on-field coaching duties, Harris serves as UPIKE Football’s recruiting coordinator.
Prior to his arrival in Pikeville, Harris served as the Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Line Coach under Coach Fipps at Kentucky Christian University for two seasons. While at KCU, Harris worked with James Castleberry and helped mold him into the Knights’ 2nd All-Time career leader in sacks.
During the 2018 season, Harris worked at the junior college level at the College of the Siskiyous as the Defensive Line Coach, mentoring two All-Conference players. He also served as the Transfer Coordinator, helping student-athletes move on to four-year programs.
Harris spent six seasons at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, spending five years coaching the Defensive Line. As the DL coach, Harris mentored 1 Midstates Football Association Defensive MVP, 2 NAIA All-Americans, and 10 All-Conference performers. Six of the top ten career sack leaders at St. Francis were coached by Harris. During his time at St. Francis, he also worked as the Special Teams Coordinator, Video Coordinator, and Academic Coordinator.
Harris spent the previous 4 seasons at The Apprentice School, a Division III program in Newport News, VA, where he coached Defensive Line, Defensive Backs, and Running Backs during his time. He also spent time as the Recruiting Coordinator and Equipment Coordinator.
Harris is a graduate of NCAA DIII Guilford College where he played linebacker during the 2003 campaign before transitioning to a Student Assistant role with the program. The Baltimore, MD native graduated with degrees in Computing & Information Technology and Criminal Justice in 2007. He also obtained his Masters of Science in Management at St. Francis in 2014.Â
