Hunter Shelton enters his first season as a graduate assistant coach for the UPIKE Men’s Basketball program for the 2022-2023 season.
Shelton is a native of Owensboro, Kentucky and comes to UPIKE from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. While at JSU, Shelton received his Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and was on the men’s basketball team for two seasons under Wayne Brent.
Prior to JSU, Shelton attended Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis, Tennessee. He played two seasons of basketball and received an Associates of Science degree from Southwest Tennessee C.C.
Before Southwest Tennessee C.C., Shelton played postgraduate basketball for AW Hamilton at Hargrave Military Academy in 2015. Shelton excelled at Hargrave as a small forward. He became an ESPN 3-star player and was ranked 52nd in the nation.
While in high school, Shelton led Apollo High School in scoring his sophomore year. He was voted 3rd region player of the year, 3rd region tournament MVP, a Kentucky high school all-star and 3rd region champion in 2012.
