UPIKE Athletics

Head Coach

Obed Quiles

Obed Quiles is entering his fourth season as the head volleyball coach at UPIKE going into the 2017 season.

In 2016, Quiles led the team to 17 wins, which was the most since going 20-20 in 2007. The two Mid-South Conference wins were the most since 2013 when the Bears finished 3-15 in league play.

Quiles had been an assistant coach with the program since 2012 following a four-year baseball playing career at Pikeville from 2007-11. The 2015 volleyball season started with Quiles as interim head coach, but he quickly had that interim tag removed before the end of the year.

On the diamond, Quiles spent the majority of his time at catcher where he hit .288 as a senior with a home run, 17 RBIs, four doubles, two triples and 16 runs scored. Quiles was a 2011 All Mid-South Conference Honorable Mention selection.

Quiles grew up with the sport of volleyball in his hometown of Naranjito, Puerto Rico before deciding to devote his full-time attention to baseball in high school. While playing baseball collegiately at Pikeville, Quiles volunteered time as a student assistant with the volleyball program.
