Perfect second-half shooting leads Bears past Faulkner

Box Score PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Pikeville College used a perfect 9-of-9 shooting from the arc in the second half to key a monumental comeback in an 85-68 win over Faulkner University Saturday afternoon at the East Kentucky Expo Center.

Faulkner, 3-4, led 41-30 at the half and stretched it to 46-31 when freshman Tareek Roach nailed a three with 19:06 left in the game.

But the Bears went on a 21-1 run over the next 5:29 to turn the 15-point hole into a five-point lead en route to their fifth straight win. It both opened and closed with sophomore Trevor Setty nailing a three and was filled with a pair of triples by senior Justin Hicks and six points by senior Quincy Hankins-Cole, highlighted by a one-handed stuff.

When Setty hit his next trey, he'd scored eight in the run and the Bears led 52-47 with 13:37 left.

The lead ballooned to 21 twice late before the Bears settled for the 17-point win.

Hicks hit five of his six three-point shots in the second half, and Setty added all three of his. Hankins-Cole added 11 and six rebounds after recess as well.

Pikeville (6-1) finished an even 50 percent from the floor and 12-of-19 (63.2 percent) from the arc. Faulkner, which hit 60 percent from the field and half its 10 first-half three-point shots, managed only 34.4 percent from the field and 1-of-8 from the arc after the break.

Hicks led four Bear starters in double figures with 22. Hankins-Cole followed with 18 and a game-high eight rebounds. Senior Vance Cooksey tossed in 13 while Setty added a dozen and six rebounds.

Faulkner was led by junior Chris Palmore with 16, only two of which came after halftime. He added six rebounds and five steals. Senior Jake Mitchell came off the bench for 10 points.

Pikeville has a quick turnaround in what will be a busy week. The Bears host Kentucky Christian Tuesday night at 8, followed by the Mid-South Conference opener against Cumberlands on Thursday at 8.

The week closes on Saturday with Lindsey Wilson in town at 4 p.m. All three games are preceded two hours earlier by women's contests and will be played at the Expo Center.
