Campbellsville blanks UPIKE 2-0

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The University of Pikeville men's soccer team was held scoreless for the fourth time this season Saturday night, as they were bested by Campbellsville University 2-0.

The Bears fall to 0-5 in Mid-South Conference play and 4-8 overall, while Campbellsville gains its first win in the MSC this season to go to 1-2-1 in the conference and 6-7-2 overall.

The Bears were outrun on both ends by the Tigers, who took 31 shots to the Bears' eight. UPike goalkeeper Sheldon Thomas put forward a strong effort, notching 16 saves against two goals allowed for a save percentage of 89%.

Campbellsville's Kyle Thomas only had to repel two shots on goal by UPike. Campbellsville was also awarded five corner kicks, while UPike received none.

Both of Campbellsville's goals came early, as Jordan Adams penetrated the UPike defense unassisted in the eighth minute. Adams' shot went off the hands of Thomas and into the side of the net for Campbellsville. This goal was followed up in the 13th minute by Ramiro Sanchez, whose goal came courtesy of an assist by Emmanuel Nfor.

Although UPike was able to better contain Campbellsville afterward, it was unable to counter attack and was held to only two shots in the entire second half after having six opportunities in the first half.

The Bears will be back on the pitch Tuesday when they travel to Lindsey Wilson College for the first of three consecutive road games. Their next home game will not be until October 29th against St. Catharine College.
