Box Score PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Top-ranked University of Pikeville held Miami-Middletown to 28 percent shooting and rolled to its fourth win in as many games by a score of 77-44 Friday night in the Appalachian Wireless Classic.
The Thunder Hawks followed 27.6 percent shooting in the first half by connecting on only 28.6 percent after recess. Meanwhile, the Bears were hitting 50 percent when they took a 40-17 lead to intermission and finished at 48.3 percent.
Miami-Middletown (2-1), which beat both Campbellsville and Rio Grande from the Mid-South Conference in last weekend's Giovanni's Classic, turned the ball over 26 times but forced Pikeville into a season high 29 miscues. The teams combined for 37 steals.
Pikeville had a balanced scoring attack with six players scoring at least six points and three hitting double figures. Senior Jamar Board led the way with 13 points, with senior Shane Burrell followed with a dozen points by hitting all three field-goal attempts and all six free throws.

Chris McHenry scored 11 points, handed out eight assists, picked up five steals and grabbed four rebounds.
Miami-Middletown placed one player in double figures, getting 10 from sophomore Lamar Mallory.

The teams are back in action on Saturday night. Miami-Middletown will play U.Va.-Wise at 6 p.m., with the Bears entertaining Bluefield College at 8 in the Appalachian Wireless Classic.
Bluefield 82, U.Va.-Wise 73: Bluefield (2-3) rallied from a one-point deficit to score 15 of the next 19 points over a 4:45 stretch in the second half for the win.
Wise (1-1) took a 62-61 lead with 6:55 on a free throw by senior Norris Gaskins. But sophomore Byron Carpenter scored six points in the run, which ended on a three-point basket by junior Kearsten Marion. Carpenter led all scorers with 29 points and rebounders with 10.
Carpenter was joined by Marion in double figures with 18 points, adding five assists and five steals. Freshman Andrew Wilson scored 13 for the Rams.
Wise had four players in double figures, paced by senior Josh Jordan's 22 and nine rebounds. Senior Travis Berry added 15. Jermaine Wright followed with 12 and sophomore Darius Smith with 11.
