PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Three players had multiple-hit games and winning pitcher Kyle Robertson threw five great innings of relief to lead Pikeville past Alice Lloyd 10-1 Wednesday afternoon.
 
The win raised Coach Chad Gassman's Bears to 2-3 on the young season, while the game served as the season-opener for the Eagles of Coach Scott Cornett.
 
After senior left-hander David Bishop threw three innings to open the game, he handed it to Robertson. The senior from Hopkinsville allowed only one hit and fanned six in his scoreless stint. Junior Austin Jarvis pitched the ninth for the Bears.
 
Alice Lloyd opened scoring in the second. Right-fielder Jeff Cyrus, a former Bear, singled and scored on a hit by designated hitter Bobby Caldwell.
 
The Bears answered with a pair in the bottom of the frame. Corey Adams reached on a one-out single.  Luke Wright reached on an error and both scored when Adam Overbay reached on an error.
 
It was the first of six scoring innings on the day for the Bears, three of which produced multiple runs.
 
The Bears took advantage of seven Eagle errors which accounted for five unearned runs on the day.
 
First baseman Pat O'Brien led the Bear attack with three hits in four at bats, driving in a pair and scoring one. Adams and Wright had two hits apiece and scored two runs; Adams had the only extra-base hit for the Bears when he doubled, and Wright recorded an RBI.
 
Morris, Overbay, Brad Andrews, Jason Rosen and Chris Morford had hits for the Bears.
 
Alice Lloyd got a pair of hits from Cyrus, including a double, and Caldwell's single.
 
Starting pitcher Trevor Corns (0-1) gave up three runs, only one of which was earned, in 2-2/3 innings. He gave up five hits and had two strikeouts. Four Eagle relievers gave up seven runs on as many hits in the final 5-1/3 innings.
 
Pikeville will play a four-game series at Bryan (Tenn.) College beginning with a Friday doubleheader at 3 p.m.
