Box Score PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Junior Trevor Setty fired in a career-high 39 points to lead the University of Pikeville past U.Va.-Wise 89-79 on Senior Day at the East Kentucky Expo Center.
 
With the win, the Bears finished the regular season 17-11 and are 9-7 in the Mid-South Conference. As a result, they will enter next week's MSC tournament seeded 4^th and will play No. 5 Cumberlands, which has identical records, in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Friday in the Frankfort Convention Center.
 
The Bears won both regular-season meetings with the Patriots. They won 73-57 on Dec. 1 in Williamsburg and 67-56 on Jan. 26 at the Expo Center.
 
Saturday's win also gave the Bears the season sweep over the Cavaliers.
 
Setty was incredible. Coming off the bench with the five UPIKE seniors in the starting lineup, he needed only 25 minutes to go 12-of-17 from the field and 6-of-9 from the arc. To cap it off, he hit 9-of-11 from the line, pulling down five rebounds, dishing two assists and picking up a steal with no turnovers in the win.
 
The Bears needed him to overcome a pair of 23-point performances for the Cavs. Senior Josh Jordan hit for 23 with 14 rebounds, half of them off the offensive glass, while classmate Travis Berry fired in 23 thanks to hitting six three-point shots.
 
Despite that, Pikeville held the Cavs to 44.4 percent shooting from the floor while hitting 54.2 percent, including 53.3 percent from the arc.
 
Behind a pair of Berry bombs and three layups by senior Norris Gaskins, the guests took a 21-12 lead after junior Jermaine Wright had a three-point play with 13:48 left.
 
But the Bears immediately responded, scoring nine straight to begin a 15-1 run. Setty opened it with a three from the top, and the run closed with back-to-back treys by Setty and junior Kenny Rhymes, the last of which came with 10:51 left to make it 26-22.
 
The Bears took a 44-40 lead to the half.
 
A basket by Jordan with 17:42 left cut the Bears' lead to 48-47 – giving him all seven second-half points for the Cavs – before another Bear explosion turned the game around. A 10-point run that ended with a tipin by senior Cordaro Ellis with 14:49 left made it 58-47.
 
Unlike the first meeting between the teams, when the Bears missed 11-of-12 free throws down the stretch, tosses would be no problem on Saturday. In the final 3:18, when senior Kyan Hines nailed two, the Bears were 10-of-12 from the stripe to pull out the double-digit win.
 
Seniors Andrew Young and Chris McHenry joined Setty in double figures with 14 and 10, respectively. Young had five rebounds while McHenry handed out five assists.
 
Jordan and Berry also had a pair of teammates in double figures. Gaskins hit for 13 with seven rebounds and four steals, while Smith tossed in 10 and handed out a game-high seven assists.
 
Wise finished the season 9-15 overall and 6-10 in the league. They will be seeded seventh and will meet No. 2 Georgetown in Friday's finale, slated for an 8 p.m. tip in Frankfort.
