Bears fall to Berea 10-5

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Berea College posted three multiple-run innings on Sunday afternoon to knock off the University of Pikeville 10-5 at Johnnie LeMaster Field.

The Mountaineers scored once in the top of the first and then took a 4-0 lead in the top of the third. Pikeville got those three back in the bottom of the frame but a two-run fifth and three more in the sixth all but put the game away.

The Bears equaled Berea with 11 hits despite the loss. Brad Andrews, Nate Goodwin, Chris Noble and Joe Morris had two hits apiece for Chad Gassman's squad. Andrews and Noble doubled while Noble drove one in. Goodwin had a run scored and an RBI while Morris scored one.

Luke Wright and Chris Morford had a hit and RBI each, while Andrew Hitchcock singled.

Jake Sokull led four Bears to the hill, throwing four innings while allowing three earned runs and striking out five.

Pikeville will visit Virginia Intermont on Monday and will return home Friday to begin a three-game series with Mid-South Conference rival Shawnee State University. The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
