Baseball swept by Georgetown

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The University of Pikeville baseball team dropped a pair of Mid-South Conference games on Friday, falling to Georgetown College 3-0 and 5-3 at Johnnie LeMaster Field.

The finale of the three-game series is set for Saturday at noon.

In the opener, Georgetown posted three single-run innings in the first four frames and held on from there.

UPIKE posted six hits in the game, including a pair from catcher Luke Wright who singled and doubled. Pat O'Brien doubled while Chris Morford, Jake Partin and Jason Rosen all singled.

Starting pitcher Kyle Robertson went 7-1/3 innings. He allowed a lot of traffic on the bases, with 10 hits and seven walks but only two of the runs were earned. Cody Clark finished the game, allowing a hit and recording a strikeout.

In the second game the Tigers broke open a 3-3 tie with a pair in the top of the sixth and held on for the win.

Trailing 3-0, the Bears evened the count with three in the top of the fifth.

The Bears loaded the bases with none out when shortstop Colin Fultz, left fielder Adam Overbay and third baseman Jason Rosen opened the inning with singles. O'Brien delivered the first run with a sacrifice fly, with Wright plating Overbay on another. Rosen scored to tie the game when Morford delivered a two-out single.

But a two-out rally in the top of the sixth was the difference. Senior Chris Wood delivered senior Dylan Grandon with a single for what would prove to be the winning run. T.C. O'Neal scored an insurance run on a bases-loaded walk.

Fultz pounded out three of Pikeville's nine hits from the nine-hole in the lineup. Rosen had the games' only extra-base hit with a double, while the Bears got singles from Overbay, O'Brien, Morford, Partin and Andrew Hitchcock.

Senior Chris Noble went the distance for the Bears, giving up nine hits over seven while recording two strikeouts.
