PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Georgetown College completed the weekend sweep of the University of Pikeville Saturday morning with a 6-3 win.
The game was moved to a 10 a.m. start in an effort to beat the threat of rain forecast for the afternoon.
The Tigers scored one in the second and three more in third to lead 4-0. UPIKE pulled within one in the bottom of the frame but got no closer.
Georgetown loaded the bases with none out in the top of the second. It appeared senior
David Bishop would get out of it after a pair of infield pop outs, but a walk delivered the first run of the game. They added three in the third when junior Mike Steinke singled in a pair and scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
The Bears pulled within one when catcher
Pat O'Brien delivered a bases-loaded double in the bottom half of the inning.
But those were the only tallies the Bears would manage on the day. Georgetown added two more in the seventh when sophomore E.J. Murray singled in a run and later scored.
O'Brien's double was part of a two-hit day which was also enjoyed by
Adam Overbay and
Colin Fultz.
Jason Rosen,
Luke Wright,
Chris Morford and
Joe Morris all singled.
Bishop took the loss, allowing four earned runs in three innings.
The Bears have now ended the regular season with a record of 10-35. They will begin post-season play with a play-in game on Wednesday afternoon. The game will begin at 2 p.m. at Campbellsville; the opponent is yet to be determined.
