The University of Pikeville volleyball team continued a rough stretch of road games on Tuesday, falling to Union College 3-0.
This loss came after last Friday's 3-0 setback at the hands of Kentucky Christian University.
The Bears will be back home on Sunday afternoon when they host a tri-match. UPIKE will hook up with Midway College at 1 p.m. and Bluefield College in a Mid-South Conference contest at 5 p.m. The Eagles and Rams will play each other at 3 p.m. at the UPIKE Gym.
Union 3, Bears 0: Union improved to 5-8 on the season and remained unbeaten at home when it knocked off Pikeville 25-20, 25-20, 25-19.
Senior
Brittany Hodge led the Bears with nine kills, while freshman
Chelsea Staples added six. Freshman
Kara Stambaugh followed with five. Junior
Stephanie Dounseroux had 20 assists for her club, while Staples had two service aces.
On defense, freshman
Haley Johnson had 17 digs in the match. Hodge and Dounseroux added seven apiece.
KCU 3, Bears 0: Kentucky Christian University jumped on top quickly and swept the Bears 25-10, 25-19, 26-24.
Hodge and Dounseroux had six kills each for Pikeville. Staples had five while Stambaugh contributed four for the Bears, who had 27 kills in the loss. Dounseroux had 11 assists.
Staples was solid on defense as well, with two solo blocks and two block assists. Sophomore
Taylor Watkins had one solo block and two assists.
