Volleyball Loses Two at Kentucky Christian Tri-Match

GRAYSON, Ky. – The University of Pikeville volleyball team came up short in a pair of matches at a Kentucky Christian tri-match on Friday night at Lusby Gymnasium.

UPIKE lost 3-0 to Ohio Valley (W. Va.) to open the night, dropping the match in straight sets, 25-23, 25-23, 25-19. The host Knights beat the Bears 3-1 (27-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-15) in the final match of the night.

Sydney Hall paced the Bears' offense against the Scots with 13 kills, while Audri Ray chipped in with eight as UPIKE hit .209 for the match. Sydney Morris dished out 25 assists and Dominique Melvin collected 25 digs. Hall also led the defensive effort at the net with three blocks.

In the four-set match against Kentucky Christian, it was Hall leading the offense once again with 13 more kills and Chelsea Staples joined her in double figures with 11. Morris had 28 assists and Melvin finished with 35 digs.

While Hall and Staples led the match in kills for the Bears, they also each sent back five blocks to pace the defense.

UPIKE returns to action at 1 p.m. ET on Friday at Cumberland in Lebanon, Tenn.
