PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The University of Pikeville volleyball team hit just .080 as a team in a 3-0 loss against No. 20 Georgetown (Ky.) on Tuesday night at the UPIKE Gym.
With kills hard to come by,
Sydney Hall paced the Bears with just five, followed by
Haley Esquivel with four and
Chelsea Staples and
Audri Ray with three each. Hall was 5-of-15 with one error to hit a team-best .267 percentage.
Georgetown's Caraline Maher was the only player to reach double figures in kills with 11, while Kathryn Smith chipped in with eight. Tiger setter Lindsey Martindale dished out a match-best 24 assists, eight more than UPIKE leader
Sydney Morris with 16.
The Tigers had their best hitting set in the third with a .389 percentage, leading to a .333 overall mark. With the offense in sync, Georgetown posted set wins of 25-15, 25-11 and 25-20. Ironically, the Bears had their closest set while posting their lowest hitting percentage in the third.
While UPIKE hit -.030, Georgetown had a team-high seven errors, allowing the Bears to play within five points.
Pikeville returns to action with the season finale at 7 p.m. ET on Friday against St. Catharine (Ky.) at UPIKE Gym. The Bears are mathematically out of the running for a spot in the Mid-South Conference Championship, limited to the top eight teams in the standings.
