Box Score PIKEVILLE, Ky. – An 11-run fourth inning was too much for Pikeville to overcome in a 12-2 loss to No. 24 Indiana Wesleyan on Friday afternoon.
The second game of the doubleheader was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The Wildcats scored one in the third when second baseman Gabby McIntire singled and scored on an infield error.
But it was in the fourth when the Wildcats did their damage, taking advantage of an error and six walks to post 11 runs to put the game away.
IWU sent 15 batters to the plate in the frame, and had a run of five consecutive batters draw walks. Three players – Sam Hemming, Gabby Bogear and Michelle McGary – scored twice in the inning, while Bogear had a three-run double to right.
When it ended, the Wildcats had taken advantage of eight rain-aided wild pitches and posted 11 runs, only one of which was earned.
Pikeville posted its runs in the bottom of the fifth without benefit of a hit. It began with a walk by left fielder
Jordyn Hale, who moved to second when shortstop
Emily Castle reached on an error. Two outs later, they both scored when designated player
Sarah Kinney's grounder to the mound was thrown away.
The Bears are now off until Feb. 23 when they begin Mid-South Conference play with a doubleheader against U.Va.-Wise at Paul Butcher Field. The games are scheduled to commence at 1 p.m.
