PIKEVILLE, Ky. – It's a 1-0 start in Mid-South Conference play for the 20th-ranked University of Pikeville men's tennis team as it routed Bluefield (Va.) 8-1 on Tuesday at Bob Amos Park.

The Bears (3-4, 1-0 MSC) went down 1-0 after Sven Rodenbusch and Francois Billet lost at No. 1 doubles 9-8 (7) against Carlton Tugman and Lochlan Kitchen, but didn't lost another match.

Pawel Tarasewicz and Marcos Sernandez Fondelius got UPIKE started with an 8-4 win against Markel Aramberri and Borja Jiminez at No.2  doubles and third-seeded Connor Smith and Dmitry Babenkov put UPIKE up 2-1 with an 8-2 win against Chas Stonestreet and James Gunn at No. 3.

Pikeville won all six singles matches in straight sets, starting with Sven Rodensbusch taking care of Kitchen 6-4, 6-3 at the top seed. Billet cruised at No. 2 as well, topping Aramberri 6-4, 6-1.

None of the final four matches were close as Jiminez's three games in a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Manuel Reyes was as close as the Rams would get.

The Bears return to action at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday, hosting Cumberlands (Ky.) at Bob Amos Park.
