Men's tennis ends season with 2-1 week

The University of Pikeville men's tennis team won two of its final three matches to wrap up the regular season.
 
The Bears took down Shawnee State 4-0 and beat Johnson 5-2. Sandwiched in between was a 6-1 loss to SCAD-Atlanta.
 
UPike will be back in action in the AAC tournament, coming up April 20-22 at Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.
 
UPike 4, Shawnee State 0: The final non-conference match of the 2026 campaign resulted in a shutout win for the Bears.
 
Playing under the old scoring system where all doubles matches counted as a point, the Bears took a 2-0 lead. The team of Haithem Rabbouche and Ahmed Hassairi won 6-0, while Anton Hofmann and Matthew Rodgers also earned a 6-0 win.
 
In singles play, Hassairi won 6-0, 6-0, while Hoffman won 6-3 and Rabbouche scored a 6-2 decision.  
 
SCAD-Atlanta 6, UPike 1: The Bees won all three doubles matches to go up 1-0. Rabbouche and Hassairi lost 6-7 (1-7), Gonzalez and Robinson also fell 6-7, while Rodgers and Hofmann were beaten 7-5.
 
The Bears won their only point at No. 5 singles, where Rodgers picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win.
 
Elsewhere, Rabbouche lost 1-6, 3-6; Robinson fell 0-6, 1-6; Hassairi was beaten 3-6, 5-7; Hofmann lost 5-7, 2-3; and Gonzalez was defeated 3-6, 6-3.
 
UPike 5, Johnson 2: The Bears won the doubles point on Senior Day, winning at Nos. 2 and 3. Gonzalez and Robinson won 6-4 while Hofmann and Rodgers took home a 7-5 win. At No. 1, Rabbouche and Hassairi were taken down 2-6.
 
Nos. 1 and 2 singles both were three-set losses. Rabbouche lost 6-2, 2-6, 2-6, while Robinson fell at No. 2, 1-6, 6-4, 2-6.
 
At No. 3, Hassairi won 6-3, 6-2, while Hofmann won at No. 4 by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Rodgers picked up a 6-2, 4-1 win, while Gonzalez was a 6-3, 6-2 winner.
