No. 22 Men’s Tennis Beats Allegheny 6-3 for Sixth Straight Win

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The 22nd-ranked University of Pikeville men's tennis team won its sixth straight match on Thursday, topping Allegheny (Pa.) 6-3 at the Springfest in Hilton Head, S.C.

The Bears grabbed an early 2-1 lead after doubles play, winning at the first and third seeds. Sven Rodenbusch and Dmitry Babenkov paired up at the top spot for an 8-2 win against Patrick Cole and Tyler Triolo, while Connor Smith and Francois Billet were 8-6 winners against Sam Stephenson and Frank Mosconi at No. 3.

Rodenbusch, who is currently ranked 14th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NAIA Central Region Rankings, gave Pikeville its first singles win at the No. 2 seed, topping Triolo 6-4, 6-1 to give the Bears a 3-2 advantage. From there UPIKE gained wins at the third, fourth and sixth seeds to clinch the match.

Pikeville is back in action at the Hilton Head Springfest with one last match at 1 p.m. ET on Friday against Kutztown (Pa.).
