Inclement Weather Strikes Again, Saturday Baseball Canceled

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – A game postponed to Saturday has now been canceled as the University of Pikeville and Cumberlands (Ky.) baseball teams will now play a Noon ET doubleheader on Sunday on the turf at the Hambley Athletics Complex next to Pikeville High School.

Both teams are eager to find a way to play these games as they are fighting for position in the Mid-South Conference standings. Entering the weekend, the Bears are in eighth place with a 5-7 league record, while the Patriots are ninth at 4-8.

In the back of every team's mind is the fact that only eight of the 10 league teams advance to the MSC Championship.

This is the seventh game this season to be either canceled or postponed for UPIKE which is currently 17-15 overall. First baseman Nicolas Gonzales is leading the team at the plate, batting .388 with seven doubles, 21 RBIs and a home run. Zak Sutherland has been the most effective pitcher so far, posting a 2.70 ERA with a 3-2 record that includes a team-best 32 strikeouts.
