Baseball Splits at West Virginia Tech, Edges Alice Lloyd

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The University of Pikeville baseball team stepped outside of Mid-South Conference play for three games this week, splitting a doubleheader at West Virginia Tech on Tuesday before edging Alice Lloyd (Ky.) on the road on Wednesday.

UPIKE lost 1-0 in game one at West Virginia Tech before bouncing back for a 2-1 win in the finale. The string of one-run games continued on Wednesday with a 7-6 win against Alice Lloyd.

With the two wins, Pikeville improves to 21-20 overall with a 6-11 mark in MSC action. It's the first time since 2005 that the Bears have won at least 20 games.

UPIKE is currently tied for eighth place in the league standings, but is just four wins away from matching the second-place team's total. Only the top eight teams in the very balanced league advance to the MSC Tournament.

Stats were not immediately available from West Virginia Tech or Alice Lloyd, but will be posted at UPIKEBears.com as soon as they are received. The Bears are back in action at 2 p.m. ET on Friday at Cumberland in Lebanon, Tenn.
