Men's Box Score | Women's Box ScoreLEBANON, Tenn. – The Cumberland (Tenn.) men's and women's tennis teams picked up a pair of wins against the University of Pikeville on Saturday as the Bulldog women won 6-0 and the sixth-ranked men beat the No. 21 Bears 8-1 at the Tommy Gray Memotial Courts.
The UPIKE men drop to 13-6 overall and 5-2 in Mid-South Conference play, while Cumberland improves to 11-4 overall and a perfect 7-0 in league play which is good enough to wrap up its first MSC Regular-Season Championship.
On the women's side, Pikeville is 2-10 overall and 2-5 in the MSC and Cumberland is 8-7 overall and 4-3 against conference teams.
Pawel Tarasewicz tallied UPIKE's lone win in the men's match, winning at the No. 6 seed against Garry Tokas in an 8-3 pro set. The Bears came close to taking an early lead but ultimately lost a pair of doubles matches 8-6. The next closest singles match was
Francois Billet losing to Pablo Borrero 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 2 seed.
The UPIKE women played a shortened match with only two players able to travel.
Mounia Sami and
Thais Bezerra lost in doubles 8-2 against Franki Jecker and Angelica Sepulveda, followed be a default loss at No. 2 to trail 2-0 heading into singles.
Sami took on Alena Gizdic at the No. 1 seed where she lost 6-0, 6-0 and Bezerra faced Antea Dedic at the No. 2 seed where she lost by the same score. Jecker and Tais Lacerda Bezerra accepted the two default singles wins to finish off the 6-0 score.
