Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The University of Pikeville softball team lost game one in the late innings, while ninth-ranked Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) took care of business early in the finale to sweep the Bears with 3-1 and 12-0 wins on Saturday at Lindsey Wilson Park.

The Bears tallied four hits and cut the Blue Raider lead to 2-1 in the sixth inning of game one before Lindsey Wilson added an insurance run in the bottom of the frame. Game two had a different narrative as Jordan Hood posted her second shutout of UPIKE, not allowing a hit with nine strikeouts in five innings.

Catcher Eady Beth Connally drove in UPIKE's lone run in game one, while centerfielder Brandi Jo Howard added a triple and scored the run. Kayla Brown went 1-for-3 at the dish with a double.

The only offense Pikeville could muster in the finale was one walk each from second baseman Emily Castle and third baseman Hollie Hinkle.

Sydney Morris (3-9) kept the Bears in the game, scattering nine hits for three runs with three strikeouts in six innings. Game-two starter Lauren Barnes (2-8) struggled out of the gate, giving up six runs on six hits in just the first inning. Morris and Mirando Owens finished out the game.

Casey Bryan improved to a perfect 14-0 with the win for Lindsey Wilson in the opener, allowing four hits with 10 strikeouts.

The power-hitting Blue Raiders finished the day with four home runs, tallying two in each game. Outfielder Travatia Bowden led the way with two long balls out of a combined four hits. Right fielder Amanda Trampe was hard to handle in game two, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a double.

Lindsey Wilson waited until the bottom of the third inning in game one to score as first baseman Kristina Krupinski sent a two-run bomb over the fence. UPIKE fought back in the sixth as Howard led off with a triple and scored on a sac fly from Connally.

Bowden led off the Blue Raiders' half of the sixth with another home run and that was how the game ended with Lindsey Wilson up 3-1.

There was a lot less drama in the nightcap as Lindsey Wilson put six runs on the board in the first inning. UPIKE never scored in the game as the Blue Raiders added six more scores over the next four innings to wrap up the sweep.

Pikeville is back in action at 2 p.m. ET on Monday, hosting Bluefield (Va.) at Paul Butcher Field.
