Men’s Soccer Falls 5-0 at Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- Cumberlands scored four goals in the second half to pull away from the University of Pikeville men's soccer team on Saturday for a 5-0 win as Caio Presa posted a shutout in goal with four saves for the Patriots.

UPIKE (1-3, 0-2 MSC) trailed in total shots just 13-9 and 9-4 in shots on goal, but couldn't boot any into the back of the net. It wasn't easy from the start for Cumberlands (4-4, 2-1 MSC) either as the first goal of the game wasn't scored until the 30th minute when Luan Anacieto finished a pass from Mike Buscemi.

After coming out of halftime down just 1-0, the Bears watched the deficit grow as the Patriots struck for goals in the 54th, 64th, 81st and 86th minutes. Jack Cousin made it 2-0, then Buscemi scored a goal of his own before Matthew Worley scored twice in a five-minute span to end the game.

Pedro Santos led UPIKE with three shots, including two on goal and Mateus Meira was the only other Bear with multiple shots, taking two with one on frame. Tait Torstenson went the distance in goal, making four saves with the five goals allowed.

Worley paced Cumberlands with four shots as the Patriots also held an advantage in corner-kick opportunities at 5-2, while UPIKE led in total fouls 15-12.

After a busy week, the Bears are off until 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday, hosting Fisk (Tenn.) at the Bob Amos Complex.
