MARIETTA, Ga. -- In the first tier-one event of the season, the University of Pikeville women's bowling team earned a spot in the top three, taking third place out of 18 teams at the Brunswick Southern Collegiate Classic on Sunday.
Only 78 pins separated the Bears from second-place Florida State which tallied a score of 10,467. Webber International (Fla.), however, put up the biggest number with a total pin fall of 10,970 to take home the team championship.
Individually, Fallon Tallman paced UPIKE, finishing just outside of all-tournament team honors in sixth place with a score of 1,190 (198.3). Caylin Doran was close behind in 16th place with 1,104 pins (184) and UPIKE's Shelby Fromm came in 40th at 971 (194.2).
Bellarmine's Megan Szczepanski had the best overall showing, knocking down 1,278 pins for an average score of 213 per game.
Team scores at the event were tallied from six games of match play, followed by 12 Baker games. UPIKE was in fourth place after Saturday's individual match play, but jumped ahead of Lindenwood (Mo.) in the team games.
The Bears bowl again on Nov. 14-15 at the Raider Classic in Dayton, Ohio.
