BEAVERCREEK, Ohio -- The University of Pikeville women's bowling team qualified first at the Raider Classic, but came up short in the championship round at Beaver-Vu Lanes on Sunday.
Through five team games and 20 baker-style games, the Bears qualified in the No. 1 spot by nearly 80 pins with a score of 8,869.
Only the top-four teams in qualifying advanced to the bracket round as UPIKE was joined by Ursuline with 8,791 pins, Wright State with 8,736 and Urbana with a score of 8,628.
After dominating on Saturday, the Bears faced tight competition in the championship round which started with four Baker games to decide the winners in the semifinals. With 781 pins, UPIKE was fourth, followed by Ursuline with 809 pins to also be eliminated.
Urbana and Wright State met in the finals where Urbana won 413-399 to win the team title.
UPIKE is back in action on Nov. 21-22 in the Striking Knights Classic, hosted by Bellarmine in Louisville, Ky.
