PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- It was a night when nothing was falling for the University of Pikeville volleyball team as it posted just a -.064 hitting percentage in a 3-0 loss at Shawnee State on Monday.
Sydney Hall did her best to give the Bears a chance with five kills, but she faced an aggressive block all night and tallied just a -.182 hitting clip. Cassidy Tackett was the only Bear with more than one kill to hit a positive percentage at .071 on four kills.
Shawnee State sent back nine blocks and had seven aces to the Bears' two to capture the 25-16, 25-6, 25-10 shutout win. It was led by Lauren Helbig on the attack with 10 kills, while Miranda Clark and Ashley Galbreath followed close behind with nine each.
Clark and Helbig also finished with three blocks each as the Bears from Portsmouth hit a .485 percentage as a team.
UPIKE played its best volleyball in the opening set, scoring 16 points with a .179 percentage, from there it hit -.345 and an even .000 to close out the match.
There is one match left in the regular season for UPIKE as it travels to Midway at 7 p.m. ET on Friday.
Next up will be the Mid-South Conference Championship where the Bears are expected to receive the No. 9 seed and take on the No. 8 seed on Thursday, Nov. 12 at Noon ET at South Warren High School in Bowling Green, Ky., for the right to take on the top-seeded team in the first round.
