Georgetown Gets Hot Late to Top Baseball 6-1

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- It was a pitcher's duel for seven innings before Georgetown got hot to the tune of five runs in the eighth inning to lift itself past the University of Pikeville baseball team 6-1 on Monday afternoon.

The three-game series was originally scheduled for last Friday and Saturday, but rainy weather push it back to a Sunday doubleheader and the single game on Monday. The Tigers won all three games of the opening Mid-South Conference series.

Josh Bailey allowed just one Georgetown run over the first seven innings before giving up three more without recording an out in the eighth. Bailey left the game with three strikeouts, three walks and just three of the runs earned against him. Ronny Herndon closed out the loss, allowing two more runs on two hits with one batter out on strikes.

The troublesome eighth inning didn't include any Bear errors, instead it was the Tigers' bats tallying four hits, including a double, fielder's choice bunt that scored a run, a two-RBI single, a strikeout that was dropped due to a wild pitch and a two-out, two-RBI triple from designated hitter Ryan Serrato to finish off the rally.

UPIKE tallied its lone run of the game in the ninth when first baseman Nicolas Gonzales reached on a walk and later scored on a double from third baseman Erik Manning.

The Bears were outhit 7-5 and committed three errors to Georgetown's none. Manning was the only UPIKE player with multiple hits, going 2 for 4. Georgetown third baseman Rick Reyes went 3 for 3 a double and run scored. The Tigers' winning pitcher was Payton Lobdell who scattered five hits for one run with only one strikeout.

UPIKE is back in action at 1 p.m. ET on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Asbury at Johnnie LeMaster Field.
