  • There are eight teams left playing in NAIA Men's Basketball. The group, in order of seeds, includes: No. 1 Hope International (Calif.), No. 2 Talladega, No. 3 Cal State San Marcos, No. 6 Dalton State (Ga.), No. 7 UPIKE, No. 8 Martin Methodist (Tenn.), No. 13 Mid-America Christian (Okla.) and Westmont (Calif.).
  • UPIKE is lone team still playing from the Mid-South Conference as Cumberlands lost to Martin Methodist 73-59 and Campbellsville dropped a 65-61 decision to Westmont. Georgetown had lost in the first round to Arizona Christian 94-82.Heading into Saturday's game, UPIKE has an 11-7 all-time record in the NAIA National Championship, including a 2-0 mark in quarterfinal action. The Bears hadn't won in the round of 16 since 2011 when they went on to win the program's first and only NAIA championship. The other win in the quarters came in 2011.
  • UPIKE head coach Kelly Wells, in his ninth season at the school, is 8-2 all-time at nationals. His first trip to the tournament was the magical 2011 run in which his unseeded Bears won five straight games. Since then, Wells is 3-2 including Friday's win over Concordia (Calif.).
  • Breaking up UPIKE's record by rounds, it is 4-5 in the first round, 3-1 in the second, a perfect 2-0 in the quarterfinals, 1-1 in the semis and 1-0 in the national-championship game.
  • Through 18 games at the national tournament, UPIKE's 97 points scored against Concordia on Friday are the second most in program history. The only time it scored more was in the 2011 semifinals with a 110-99 win over Martin Methodist (Tenn.).
  • Michael Eneh's outstanding tournament play continued on Friday, starting with the Bears' second bucket of the game, which was a thunderous dunk from the 6-11 big man from Nigeria. Eneh, who averages just over three points and three rebounds per game on the season is averaging five points and nine rebounds through two games in Kansas City. Not to mention the amount of shots he's altering in the post that don't show up on the stat sheet.
  • The return of K.K. Simmons' shooting stroke came at the right time as the NAIA's leading 3-point shooter hadn't hit more than three treys in a game since late February. That all changed against Concordia as Simmons nailed 6 of 9 from long distance to finish with a game-high 28 points.
  • High-scoring Bears continue that trend in Kansas City as they scored at least 90 points for the 22nd time this season against Concordia. Entering the tournament, UPIKE was the NAIA's highest scoring team at 95.2 points per game.
  • Interesting fact about Talladega: Talladega, called Swayne School at the time, became Alabama's first college dedicated to serving the educational needs of African-Americans in 1869.
  • A word from the coach (on Concordia win): "It really was an entertaining game, but for people invested like I was, it was pretty stressful," said UPIKE head coach Kelly Wells. "I was really proud of our guys and the team spirit. We have a good demeanor about us right now and everyone is on the same page. We had some adversity to overcome with fouls and playing some different lineups, but we just have to outplay our opponent one game at a time."
