COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Ryan Hartman pitched a shutout over six innings to help Lindsey Wilson to a 12-0 win over the University of Pikeville baseball team on Friday night at Egnew Park.
The Blue Raiders outhit the Bears 10-4 and led 9-0 through three innings as Hartman cruised along for 10 strikeouts and giving up just two of the hits. Aaron Doughty closed out the game, giving up two hits in one inning of work.
Bryce Carden took the loss for UPIKE, scattering eight hits for nine runs in 3 2/3 innings before Cody Clark pitched the final 2 1/3 frames, giving up three runs on two hits. The pitchers combined for just three strikeouts.
On a tough night at the plate, catcher Cody Chagnon performed the best for the Bears, going 2 for 2 with a walk. Left fielder Zach Nothwehr and third baseman Erik Manning added hits, but none went for extra bases.
Lindsey Wilson had eight players register at least one hit, including home runs from designated hitter Victor Nazario and first baseman Aaron Ashton. Ashton finished with four RBIs and a run scored on two hits. The Blue Raiders also had a big day on the base paths with seven steals, led by left fielder Brandon Munoz, third baseman Steven Paredes and centerfielder Edgar LeBron swiping two bases each.
UPIKE put a runner on third just once in the seventh inning when Manning singled, advanced to second on Chagnon's single and ended up on third after a double play.
Lindsey Wilson scored three runs in each of the first three innings before adding three more in the fifth inning to round out the scoring.
The teams return to the diamond for the final two games of the series at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday.
