BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Second-seeded and 14th-ranked Campbellsville topped third-seeded University of Pikeville 5-1 in the semifinals of the 2015 Mid-South Conference Men's Tennis Championship on Friday afternoon.
The loss bring the Bears' season to a close with a 9-7 overall record and 4-2 mark in MSC play, while the Tigers improve to 15-5 overall and 5-1 in league play. Campbellsville advances to Saturday's finals against top-seeded Lindsey Wilson.
UPIKE grabbed its lone points in the match during doubles when second-seeded Francois Billet and Pawel Tarasewicz, both all-conference selections, beat Zach Baulch and Sebastian Marot 8-4. Campbellsville took the other two doubles points with an 8-5 win at the No. 1 spot and hard-fough 9-8 win at No. 3.
It took three singles wins from the Tigers to bring the match to a close, starting with Marot blanking Marcos Fondelius 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 seed. No. 2-seed Alejandro Soriano got past Dmitry Babenkov 7-5, 6-0 and Nathan Boniel was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Juan Reyes at the third seed.
