BLUEFIELD, Va. -- It was smooth sailing for the University of Pikeville men's tennis team at Bluefield on Thursday, winning all but one matches for an 8-1 victory over the Rams at the City Tennis Courts.
While the top seeded doubles pair of Dmitry Babenkov and Marcos Fondelius lost 8-6 to Lochlan Kitchen and Markel Aramberri, the rest of the match was all UPIKE.
The next two doubles matches were 8-0 shutouts as Francois Billet and Pawel Tarasewicz blanked Chas Stonestreet and Carlton Tugman at No. 2 and Nicolas Rodenbusch and Juan Reyes topped Luke Lilly and Hussan Muzaffer at No. 3.
Five of the six singles matches were won in straight sets while only Billet took a little longer at the top seed, beating Aramberri 6-7, 6-2, 10-7.
The most lopsided decision came at the No. 6 seed where Devon Sgubin shut out Muzaffer 6-0, 6-0.
Next up for UPIKE is a 1 p.m. ET meeting with St. Catharine on Saturday at the Bob Amos Tennis Courts.
