PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Right out of the gate, the University of Pikeville football team will play in an important game, hosting Mid-South Conference East Division foe Bluefield at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday at the Hambley Athletic Complex.

After opening with a divisional game, the Bears won't see another opponent from the East until Oct. 24 when they travel to Cumberlands, the start of a four-game divisional slate to end the season. But before thinking about October, November or December, UPIKE will look to beat a Ram team that it's 3-0 against all-time.

Over the past three seasons, UPIKE is averaging 53 points against the Rams, while allowing 27.

Sani Warren was a big part of that last season, completing 16-of-20 passes for 346 yards and five touchdowns in his collegiate debut. Warren is expected to take the first snaps of the game again for the Bears on Thursday.

Bluefield gained just 107 yards through the air against UPIKE last season, but had little trouble on the ground, rushing for 346 yards, including 79 on 12 carries and a touchdown from Marion Harris III. Harris III is back this season for Bluefield, but it will be a new signal caller as Terrell Hackney, a converted wide receiver who transferred from NCAA Div. I FCS Liberty, is expected to start.
