Volleyball Falls to No. 5 Lindsey Wilson 3-0

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson, ranked fifth in the NAIA, lived up to its top-five billing, topping the University of Pikeville volleyball team 3-0 on Thursday night at UPIKE Gym.

The Bears (3-8, 0-4 MSC) lost by set scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-14 as the Blue Raiders (11-3, 1-1 MSC) hit .373 as a team, compared to a .013 UPIKE showing.

Carol Siqueira paced the Blue Raider attack with 10 kills at a .421 clip and added two digs and a block as well. Siqueira was the only player to register double-digit kills in the match.

UPIKE got six kills each from Connor Cook and Sydney Hall, but 22 attack errors, compared to 10 from Lindsey Wilson, never allowed the Bears to get into the match. The Bears' only leads came on the first point of the second set and in the third set at 7-5, but a 4-0 run gave the Blue Raiders the lead back and they never relinquished it.

Leads were as high as 13 points for the Blue Raiders, tallied at 17-4 in the second set. Setter Makenzie Montano helped that along with 25 assists, while also connecting on 6 of 8 attacks and putting down two service aces.

The Bears had assists on all but one of their kills as Savanna Zakman dished out 22 assists and Kaitlyn Welsh played the best defensively with seven digs.

Bear Standout: Sydney Hall (6 kills, .133 pct., 2 aces, 1 dig, 1 block)

Visitor Standout: Makenzie Montano (6 kills, .625 pct., 25 assists, 7 digs, 2 aces)

Up Next: at Quaker Classic, Sept. 12-13, Richmond, Ind., (Wilmington, Berea, Earlham, Concordia-Chicago)
