KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Pikeville volleyball team swept both matches of its Saturday tri-match, topping host Johnson and Toccoa Falls both by 3-0 scores.
The two shutouts improve the Bears' season record to 3-6 overall as they look to jump back into Mid-South Conference play at Campbellsville (Ky.) on Tuesday.
Connor Cook paced the offense against Johnson with 10 kills, while Kaitlyn Welsh chipped in with nine. The Bears hit a season-best .414 hitting percentage and got a boost on the defensive side from Amari Eadie with three blocks.
Against Toccoa Falls, Cook and Rachel Murphy tied for the team lead in kills with nine each. Four Bears finished with two blocks, including Murphy, Welsh, Sydney Hall and Cassidy Tackett.
Savanna Zakman had a good day running the offense, tallying 28 assists in the opener and 30 against Toccoa Falls. Murphy led with seven digs against Johnson, while Murphy and Brooke Moore tied for the team lead in the finale with four digs each.
