PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Despite leading the game in shots 17-13, including a 7-4 lead in shots on goal, the University of Pikeville men's soccer team couldn't get past visiting Life, falling 2-1 on Friday at the Bob Amos Complex.
The Bears fall to 4-8 overall and 1-3 in Mid-South Conference play, while Life improves to 1-10 on the season and 1-4 in league play.
Eric Bernabeu led the Bears with four shots, although Hill netted the long goal on just two attempts.
UPIKE struck first in the conference matchup as Hill bent a long shot from the left side of the box into the bottom, right corner on one bounce in the ninth minute. Logan Alexander set up the scoring chance by playing a pass up to Hill from midfield.
Life's equalizer came nine minutes later in the 18th off the head of Eddy Diaz. The Running Eagles' first goal of the season was scored off a free kick as Joe Davis hooked his attempt into the center of the penalty box for the header from five-feet out.
The game looked destined to stay tied at the break until Sergio Sereeira got loose a minute before halftime. Ricardo Lawrence played a cross to him inside the box from the left side and he quickly played the ball past a defender and UPIKE goalkeeper Jorge Mejia to take a 2-1 lead.
That late first-half goal ended up being enough to prove the difference as neither team could get on the board in the final 45 minutes. UPIKE outshot Life 11-6 in the second half, but couldn't put many on target.
