Men’s Soccer Falls at Cumberlands 5-0

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- Five different Cumberlands players netted goals as the Patriots shut out the University of Pikeville men's soccer team 5-0 on Saturday.

Cumberlands outshot the Bears 18-1 overall, including a 13-0 lead in shots put on target. The Patriots also held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks and was whistled off side 19 times, compared to just two calls against UPIKE.

UPIKE's lone shot came from Oscar Pacheco, but it wasn't enough to deal with a Cumberlands team that kept its foot on the gas pedal. Sam Ho, Zach Wallace and Michael Witt all fired three shots each to pace the Patriots off the bench, while Ho was also responsible for a pair of assists.

Nicklas Nancke started the scoring in the 17th minute off a cross into the penalty box, followed by Joey Ferguson making it a two-score game in the 39th off a rebound from the post. Two minutes before halftime, Anton Lanerva made it 3-0 with a goal off a deflection by a UPIKE defender.

Cumberlands finished out its scoring in the 56th and 74th minutes with strikes by Wallace and Joel Caldwell. The latter was scored off a corner kick, utilizing a header to put the ball in the back of the net.
