BEREA, Ky. -- After a hectic first 11 minutes, Berea settled things down in the second half with a pair of goals to top the visiting University of Pikeville men's soccer team 3-1 on Tuesday.
The Mountaineers (2-10-3) took just 14 seconds to get on the board first as Wesley Saintilnord took a quick shot into the back of the net after the opening kickoff. It didn't take long though for the Bears to equalize as Eric Bernabeu played a pass ahead to Hayden McLeod for the finish in the 11th minute.
The 1-1 tie held up for the rest of the half and continued into the start of the second half until Saintilnord put Berea up for good with a 64th minute goal. Garrison Wagner added an insurance score in the 81st minute to hold off the Bears.
Berea outshot UPIKE 14-9 overall and 9-5 in shots on target as Brandon Lopez led the Bears' attack with a game-high four shots. Berea held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks and had a slight edge in fouls, 14-13.
UPIKE (4-12) goalkeeper Jorge Mejia collected six saves, while Berea's Noah DeHart scooped up four.
