PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Kills were hard to come by as the University of Pikeville volleyball team hit just a .092 percentage as a team in a 3-0 shutout loss to Campbellsville in Mid-South Conference play on Thursday at UPIKE Gym.
The Tigers (22-8, 9-3 MSC)Â were an efficient machine, tallying a .318 hitting percentage and getting Jessie Pendleton and Annija Abolina to 12 and 11 digs, respectively in just three sets. Campbellsville brought the match to a close with set scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-16.
On a quiet offensive night, Kaitlyn Welsh stood out with a team-high seven kills at a .200 clip, while Savanna Zakman pitched in with four kills at a .364 percentage from the setter position. Zakman added 20 assists, Rachel Murphy found 13 digs and Cassidy Tackett sent back a pair of blocks.
Putting balls down was the name of the game as UPIKE (16-14, 2-10 MSC)Â got two more attempts on the attack (87-85), but scored on just 25 of them, compared to 41 for the Tigers.
UPIKE had a 7-6 lead in the first set, but watched the Tigers go on a 7-0 run to break things open and build a lead as large as nine points. The Bears never led in the second, instead falling behind by 11 at 25-14 and briefly enjoyed a 5-3 lead in the final frame before a pair of early 4-0 runs put Campbellsville in the driver's seat to end it.
