Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Efficient Medder Takes No. 19 Men’s Basketball Past Carlow 99-65

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Desmond Medder led all players with 20 points, going 5-for-6 from the field and 10-of-13 from the stripe, to efficiently lead the 19th-ranked University of Pikeville men's basketball team past Carlow (Pa.) 99-65 on Friday in the Walters Auto Classic.

Accuracy played a role in the lopsided win as the Bears outshot the Celtics from the field 50 to 40 percent, but turnovers didn't help Carlow's cause either, giving up 25 which were turned into a 37-10 scoring advantage for the Bears.

UPIKE (7-0) scored 13 of the first 15 points, including a three from Rze Culbreath that made it 13-2 three minutes into the action. After briefly trimming the deficit to eight at 13-5, Carlow went down by 11 on the next possession on a three by Chase Parsley and stayed behind by double digits the rest of the game.

A layup by Michael Lewis gave the Bears' their largest first-half lead of 27 points before Carlow outscored them 18-9 the rest of the half to trail by 18 at halftime.

Eleven points was as close as Carlow (0-4) got in the second half when a Charlie Scharbo jumper made it 59-48, but a 15-0 UPIKE run followed, allowing it to blow things open by as many as 37 points in the final minute.

Medder was joined in double figures by Darrion Leslie with 15 points, Jordan Perry with 11 and Trey Rakes chipping in with 10. Lewis and Richard Freeman led the Bears with seven rebounds each as they controlled the glass 41-31.
