Volleyball’s Road Swing Starts with 3-0 Loss at No. 4 Lindsey Wilson

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Eileen Acuna led fourth-ranked Lindsey Wilson with 16 kills as it hit .326 as a team in a 3-0 shutout of the University of Pikeville volleyball team on Thursday night in Biggers Sports Center.

UPIKE struggled on the attack, hitting -.049, as Sydney Hall was its leader in kills with six. Connor Cook chipped in with five kills, while Cassidy Tackett, Savanna Zakman and Amari Eadie tallied three each.

Zakman was a standout for the Bears, dishing out 15 assists and collecting 10 digs while also serving an ace and adding the three kills. Rachel Murphy led UPIKE defensively with 14 digs and had an ace as well.

Acuna was efficient, connecting on 16-of-25 swings with just one error to post a .600 hitting percentage. She was set up for success by setter Makenzie Montano who handed out 25 assists, while Anna-Lena Elbers kept the Bears off balance with three aces.

UPIKE (17-15, 2-11 MSC) never led in the match after falling behind by four points or more at the start of all three sets. The opening frame may have been the toughest as the Blue Raiders (28-1, 13-1 MSC) shot out to an 11-1 lead before holding on to win 25-8.

The Bears were within six at 23-17 late in the second set and were tied 15-15 in the third before Lindsey Wilson closed the match on a 10-0 run.
