LEBANON, Tenn. -- The University of Pikeville volleyball team had 18 kills, but it also had 18 errors to hit an even .000, in a 3-0 loss at Cumberland on Friday night.
The loss wraps up the 2016 regular season with the Bears sporting a 17-16 overall record and 2-12 mark in Mid-South Conference play. Cumberland moves to 19-13 overall and 5-9 in league action.
On a night when kills were hard to come by, Sydney Hall did the best for UPIKE, tallying six at a .600 clip. No one else hit over .100 as Cassidy Tackett and Savanna Zakman chipped in with four kills each. Zakman also handed out 12 assists, Kaitlyn Welsh had two aces and Rachel Murphy found 12 digs.
While Amari Eadie was quiet on the attack, she did lead all players with four blocks.
Amanda Worrell reached double figures with 10 kills for the Phoenix which also got nine kills and 10 digs from Maci Lerno. Rachel Clement and Sara Glassman had 18 and 16 assists, respectively, leading Cumberland to a .337 hitting percentage.
UPIKE led 1-0 in the first and second sets and had a 4-3 lead in the third, but for the majority of the night the Phoenix played out in front. After the initial 1-0 lead, Cumberland scored 16 of the next 20 points to build a 16-5 lead.
Cumberland shot out to a 12-3 lead in the second set, but watched the Bears outscore them 7-1 to make things interesting halfway through before going on to win 25-14. The third set was close early on as well at 11-8, but the Phoenix outscored UPIKE 14-7 the rest of the way to complete the sweep.
