No. 19 Men’s Basketball Cruises 106-37 Over OSU-Mansfield

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Six players scored in double figures for the 19th-ranked University of Pikeville men's basketball team as it cruised to a 106-37 win over Ohio State-Mansfield in the Appalachian Wireless Classic on Friday night at the East Ky. Expo Center.

It was a balanced attack for the Bears as Rze Culbreath and Trey Rakes led them with 13 points each, followed by Michael Lewis, Darrion Leslie, Jordan Perry and Marshall Bennett with 11 each. Bennett and Lewis both tallied double-doubles with 11 and 13 rebounds, respectively.

UPIKE (4-0) shot nearly 50 percent from the field as it jolted out to a 29-1 lead to start the game. The Mavericks (0-1) didn't reach double figures until the 5:33 mark of the first half when it trailed 49-11. The largest lead of the half came just before the buzzer when a Culbreath three made it 66-13.

The 53-point halftime advantage grew to as many as 72 points in the second half, including on Lewis' layup down the middle of the paint with 20 seconds to play. UPIKE opened the half on a 25-14 run and when it reached 100 points on Culbreath's jumper with 2:10 to play, the score was 100-31.

UPIKE dominated the backboards 72-22, leading to a 31-3 advantage in second-chance points. It outscored Mansfield 51-10 off the bench, 60-12 in the paint and 16-0 on the fast break.

The Mavericks were led by Tyson Beebe with 12 points and Gavin Stigall with six rebounds. The Bears limited them to just a 21 percent showing from the field, including making just 8-of-35 3-point attempts.
